The Challenge New build properties often provide a fantastic blank canvas, but their modern, uniform windows can sometimes lack character or feel a bit cold. The clients were looking to soften the aesthetic of their living room while maintaining practical light control and privacy. They needed a window dressing solution that felt welcoming, elevated the space, and was installed with minimal disruption to their newly finished home.
The Solution We worked with the clients to design window treatments that worked on both the wide windows to two aspects at the front and the patio doors at the rear. We combined the soft, elegant drape of made to measure double pinch pleat curtains with the clean, functional lines of tailored waterfall roman blinds, all in Dakota textured velvet fabric, in a warm neutral Putty colour. This approach allows for versatile light filtering during the day and a cosy, substantial feel in the evening. As with all our installations, especially in pristine new builds, we prioritised a clean and tidy workspace, ensuring the beautiful final result was the only sign we had been there.

Question: Do you measure and fit the curtains and blinds for me?
Answer:Yes, we provide a complete end-to-end service. We will visit your home to take precise measurements of your patio doors and windows, discuss heading styles and linings, and then return to professionally install everything so it hangs perfectly.
Question: Will heavy curtains and Roman blinds help insulate my room?
Answer:Yes, they are excellent for thermal efficiency. Fully lined Roman blinds on your windows combined with properly lined curtains on large patio doors will significantly reduce heat loss during the winter months. They also help keep the room comfortably cool by blocking out harsh, direct sunlight during the summer.
Question: Are Roman blinds a good choice for smaller side windows?
Answer:Absolutely. Roman blinds are fantastic for front and side windows because they fit neatly inside or just outside the window recess. This provides a clean, tailored look that maximizes the feeling of space in the room, while still offering excellent light control and privacy when lowered.
Question: Why choose curtains for patio or bifold doors instead of blinds?
Answer:Curtains are an incredibly elegant and practical choice for large glass doors. Because they stack neatly to the side when opened, they provide clear, unobstructed access in and out of the doors—perfect for high-traffic areas during the summer. In the winter, they provide a wonderful layer of warmth and a soft, cosy aesthetic.
Question: Should my curtains and Roman blinds match exactly?
Answer:They don’t have to be identical, but they should always complement each other! For a cohesive look, we often recommend using a patterned fabric for the Roman blinds on the front and side windows, and a coordinating plain fabric for the patio door curtains—or vice versa. We can help you select the perfect fabric combinations to tie your entire room together beautifully.
